moon rise from San Rafael CA

Captured moon rise from my apartment

Capturing a huge moon in the background using a DSLR camera. Understanding distance and size of the subject. Since moon is thousands of miles away the size of the moon mostly remains the same in visible diameter. Where as the buildings or other subjects on earth look smaller the farther they are away from the camera. If you are very far away from the subject the size of the subjects almost or less than size of the moon (moon might have to be at the horizon). If you have a 200 to 1000mm zoom lens you can zoom and focus on the subject with a huge moon in the background. I missed the moon size in the above picture and I didnt use zoom lens. But I managed to capture large moon near the far away bridge on a tripod. As moon is too bright than the foreground lights I had to capture two pictures at different exposures and merge them using HDR tool. Long exposure lights up the buildings and bridges while a fast shutter captures the details of the moon
